Brewed from malted barley with a specially formulated brewers yeast. These beers are often sweeter (yes, even though they are called bitters – it just means a pale ale!) than their lager cousins, with a noticeably closer relationship with fruity flavours like plum or banana. They may have a deeper rooting in history, after all it was a staple of the medieval diet, but they are still just as enjoyable in the modern pub as they were in ye olde taverns.
