The Perfect Spring Bank Holiday Outdoor Party Ideas

Every May we have two bank holidays. One of these is right at the beginning of the month and the other is at the end of the month. These are the 3-day weekends we all love. A chance to enjoy the warmer spring weather, catch up with friends and have a nice outdoor party in the garden.

Below we have listed some of our favorite spring bank holiday outdoor party ideas. We have also shared some delicious springtime cocktails, mocktails and punches to enjoy too. These will work perfectly with your spring bank holiday event, and everyone will love them.

Kids Fun Day

Create a fun day for the kids. Invite friends from their school class, neighbors and cousins. Turn the back garden into a place where the kids can have some fun, while parents relax. This could be a bouncy castle, a little adventure playground, some garden games and music. The kids will love the free time to just be kids, while the adults will enjoy the kids being entertained while they catch up with friends.

It’s important that the children stay hydrated in case it is warm out, plus they will be running around a lot. Make it fun to hydrate with some cute mocktails and soft drinks. One idea is a Fruity Mocktail. We tell you how to make it below.

Fruity Mocktail

Ingredients

How To Make It

  1. Thread the pre-chopped fruit onto the skewers in any pattern you choose.
  2. Add the grenadine into the glasses before gently pouring the orange juice in using the side of the cup. This prevents the juice mixing with the grenadine & ruining the effect.
  3. Top it off with the sparkling water and serve alongside the fruit skewers.

Top Tips

  • Freeze the fruit skewers in the summer to keep the mocktails cold and last longer
  • Get your kids to make the skewers up if you tired of them running riot around the house!
  • Make an adult version of this mocktail by introducing a little vodka or tequila with the orange juice – just make sure you don’t get them mixed up!

Another great drink for children, that can easily be made for adults too is pink lemonade. It can also be made in advance and left to chill in the fridge until people are thirsty.

Pink Lemonade

Ingredients

How To Make It

  1. Place the sugar, lemons, oranges & raspberries into a large saucepan.
  2. Add 350ml of cold water and bring to the boil, stirring constantly.
  3. Once the mixture has boiled, allow it to cool. Once cooled, pour the mixture through a sieve, using a wooden spoon to push it through to extract all the juices.
  4. You should now be left with a liquid of a syrupy consistency. This can be stored in the fridge for up to a week if you aren’t ready to make the lemonade yet.
  5. When serving, add a little bit of the syrup to water of your choice and stir. Top off with a handful of ice & a bit of mint.

A Spring Cocktail Garden Party

If you are looking to celebrate the spring bank holidays in more of a grown-up way than why not throw a spring cocktail party in your garden. Invite your friends and choose a selection of spring cocktails to enjoy. Make it more personal by asking guests to bring their favourite cocktail concoctions too. You can hold your spring cocktail garden party through the day, or in the early balmy evening if you would prefer. Maybe have some nibbles and blankets on hand if people are staying for a longer length of time?

Below we have listed three of our favourite spring cocktails that we think will be perfect for your spring garden party.

Rhubarb Gin

Make Rhubarb Gin At Home

Ingredients

How To Make It

  1. First, wash the rhubarb stalks thoroughly. Trim them down & remove any leaves along with the base of the root.
  2. Chop the stalks to be roughly 3cm in length. Place these chunks into a large jar, add the sugar and shake well. Fasten the jar and leave for 24 hours. This helps draw the flavour out of the rhubarb.
  3.  After the 24 hours have passed, pop the lid off and introduce your gin. Re-seal the jar and give it a good shake again. Place the jar in a safe place away from direct sunlight and wake for at least 4 weeks before drinking.
  4. After the long 4 weeks, line a sieve with muslin and drain the mixture before serving with your favorite mixer.

Over time, your rhubarb gin will fade in colour. For the best results, serve soon after the initial 4 week period.

A May Bank Holiday Picnic In The Park

A picnic is a lovely and relaxed way to bring friends and family together, especially where young children are involved. By planning a picnic at the local park, the children have the space they need to run around and have fun with their friends. Meanwhile, you have the space to relax with friends and catch up. Everyone could bring their own picnic for the family, or you could each bring a set item for the whole party. Don’t forget to pack picnic blankets or chairs to relax on. You’ll also need balls and games for the kids. Think about drinks too, you’ll need fruit juice or water for the children and adults to avoid dehydration.
