How To Make The Perfect Bucks Fizz

Bucks Fizz is a well-known cocktail that is really simple to make and delicious too. It’s seen as a brunch time treat, a drink for special occasions and something that can be enjoyed earlier in the day. Bucks Fizz is a popular drink for Christmas Day as it can be enjoyed as the kids are opening presents or as you are welcoming guests into your home for the day.

Just like a mimosa, a Bucks Fizz is also made of champagne and orange juice. However, it is just the measures that are different. In a mimosa you will have equal measures of orange juice and champagne. However, as the name hints towards, in a Bucks Fizz, it is more fizz. The orange juice is used purely to dilute the champagne.

Bucks Fizz was actually created in London, a few years before the mimosa was created in Paris. A barman in London’s Buck’s Club in 1921 invented the cocktail, and that was where the name came from. The bar where it was made and the fizz of the champagne.

So, how can you go about making the perfect Bucks Fizz?

To make four servings you will need 400ml of champagne and 200ml of orange juice. Smooth orange juice is better for a smoother drink. However, it’s really down to personal preference and what you have in the fridge!

Take four champagne flutes and full them each with 100ml of champagne. Then add the orange juice and fill the drinks to the top of the glass. If you’re looking to make the drinks look extra special and sophisticated why not add an orange twist to garnish the drink?

Now, we have two top tips for making the perfect Bucks Fizz. Firstly, your champagne should be chilled. We would also recommend you go for a dry champagne. In fact, many people feel that the drier the champagne the better as it pairs nicely with the sweetness of the orange juice in the cocktail. Look for the word ‘Brut’ on the bottle to be sure you are choosing a dry champagne for this delicious and refreshing cocktail.
